The Israeli art group The 3d eye (The Third Eye) was a tantalizing small bunch of artists and pseudo-artists which was active in the art scene of Tel-Aviv from the late 60s until the beginning of the 70s. The group, lead by Jacques Katmor (AKA Jacques Mouri-Katmor), an avant-garde Israeli artist and film maker and his beautiful wife Ann Tochmeyer (AKA Ann Katmor) tried to shock the stagnated Israeli society by initiating provocative exhibitions, art events and publications, sometimes involving blunt sexual content.

The first and sole issue of "The Strip" - the official periodical of the Israeli Third Eye art group
The Strip underground magazine, whose front cover is presented here, was planned to be the group's official periodical. The premiere issue of "Strip" that was published in October 1972 in Tel-Aviv, included rare pieces of quite daring graphics, drawings and photos by some of the talented artists of the group like the photographer Norman Kulkin, the painters Henry Shelesnyak and Avner Katz and the graphic artist Michel Opatowski. Jacques and Ann Katmor had edited the publication and contributed their unique fine and innovative works - have a look.

רבות סופר על ז'אק קתמור מנהיגה של קבוצת "העין השלישית" המיתולוגית - "אדם מוכשר שהלך לאיבוד" כפי שתואר על ידי מעריציו. סיפרו איך היה נדיב, רחב אפקים ותומך ובה בעת עריץ שסבל מהתקפי זעם בלתי נשלט וריסק את מי שלא הסכים עם דעתו. קתמור האמין שתוך כדי החתירה לחופש יש לאבד הכל ונראה שהוא אכן איבד הרבה. מי שיותר הקסימה אותי הייתה אן טוכמאייר, שלימים נקראה אן קתמור, יפה, עיניה גדולות, מיוחדת, שקטה. הציורים המופלאים שלה מעידים על כשרון אמיתי שפרץ גבולות וריחף מעל הבלאגן ומשחקי האגו שמאפיינים קומונות של אמנים וקומונות בכלל. הרישום "אישה ישראלית" המוצג מעל הוא פורטרט עצמי של אישה חכמה, רב מימדית שעיניה הגדולות העמיקו לראות.

The Katmors preached for free love,
openness of the mind and drug driven creativity but failed to integrate in the routine
life and culture of the art community in Israel in that period. The first issue
of "Strip" was also the sole issue. Most of the members of the group left Israel
and spread worldwide, some of them died young because of drug usage and medical
complications. Their impact on the Israeli art community had faded out and what's
left are these beautiful works.
