You may be surprised at what I am going to tell you, but some of these mathematicians, that is, those who are not complete nuts (but anyhow, this brand doesn't tend to marry), make some pretty good, loyal husbands. They'll do a lot to earn their peace of mind if you see what I mean.
"Wait a minute K" I said, "I remember this nice looking old rocking chair that used to belong to your granny. If I ever knew you, you surely kept it, no?"
"Yeah" my friend sighed "sure. But this is another great problem. She says it will not do. It creaks and it's not safe for the baby, or the belly, or both. It won't do. She wants something modern, with reclining features and a matching ottoman. It should cost a fortune. You know, our flat is quite small. I'll have to get rid of the old".
"I see" I said, trying to earn time for digesting his sad story. Then I added: "But what are you doing here, at the pharmacy?"
"Looking for a rocking chair" he answered.
I love K, and this was the opportunity to demonstrate what true friendship really means. You should understand that K-theory, predates shopping in the internet, and sending this guy alone to buy a modern rocking chair was senseless, and even cruel. "Look what we'll do" I said to K. "I'll get you a new modern glider rocking-chair, which will be the most comfortable chair your wife will ever experience, and in exchange I'll take from you the old one. This way we solve both your problems. Ok?" You should have seen the grateful look at his eyes. That day I made my modest contribution to the advent of K-theory, and please don't ask me what it is.
In return I got a beautiful originally signed antique Michael Thonet rocking chair. God bless K's granny. Come and have a look at the other wonderful pieces of antique furniture from my collection.

Antique English Nesting Tables with Japanned Lacquer Paintings
Using skilled and extremely time-consuming techniques, Chinese and Japanese artisans produced lacquer furniture of a quality and beauty rarely seen in Europe before the 16th century. The oriental lacquer became known in Europe through Portuguese and Spanish traders who brought furniture items of excellence to Europe in the ship-loads that arrived from the East. Soon after, in the early seventeenth century, the European manufacturers, extremely influenced by the imported lacquer furniture designs, adopted the Asian lacquerwork techniques and artistic approaches and formed a unique technology and style known as Japanning.
The set of the 3 rare antique English Nesting tables presented here is a beautiful example of the mature Art of Japanning which developed from this interesting and fruitful encounter between east and west.

Antique Piano Bench and Notes Cabinet - Edwardian Era
This piano seat is a genuine piece of the Edwardian era music room furniture. The rectangular piano bench design (erroneously called piano stool or piano chair by antique furniture dealers and collectors) was first introduced at the late 19th century. This type of piano bench usually had an upholstered cushioned seat that could be lifted giving the musician a storage compartment for his sheets. The frame of the bench was made of solid black oak wood with side carrying handles. In this unique collectible piano bench, the beautifully carved wooden door at the front opens to the side, revealing a cabinet interior, originally designed for music notes books.
