I have already told you about my uncle Y who collected visiting cards in a very orderly and methodological fashion. Come to think of it, I may have created the impression of a rather eccentric person who devoted his life to matters of no real significance. This is my opportunity to set matters straight:
My uncle Y was a very broad minded, inquisitive and deep thinking intellectual. He was interested in many diverse topics, and after a lot of reading and thinking, formed his own original ideas. For many people, a conversation with him was an outstanding experience, and the wealth of his knowledge and clear thinking amazed them. Actually, you had not even needed to talk to him in order to appreciate the enormity of his erudition. You just had to study the shelves in his library.
"Has he really read all this?" was the most recurring question. Of course, hating chaos and disorder and having such a big library to maintain called for some careful thinking and creative solutions. Here his eccentric side hobby provided the required inspiration. Each one of his books got his own personal visiting card with all of the necessary details. Since he loved books and regarded them as human beings, the idea of issuing a visiting card to each book in his library was most natural, and the effort which was required to achieve it was considered to be of no consequence. I invite you to have a look at the selves of his library:

The first shelf presents a preliminary selection of various books from my uncle's library - please check back frequently to see the new books in this list. If you have something particular in mind that you are interested in, you are invited to write to me and describe the books of your interest and I will check and send you an answer if something which matches your interests appears in my lists.

Crow by Ted Hughes - Drawing on the cover by Leonard Baskin
"This is one of the little legends about the birth of this character.... Nobody knows exactly how he was created or how he appeared. He was created by god's nightmare. What exactly that is I try to define through the length of the poem or the succession of poems. It's something outside god, outside the god that created man or the man we know. So the crow is a sort of extra man, a shadow man. He is a man to correct man." Ted Hughes.
