I just read these two values in Wikipedia which present the mutual oeuvre of the
sculptor
Aristide Maillol and his model and muse
Dina Vierny.
It is a fascinating story. I also read Vicki Goldberg article "A
Sculptor's Obsession, A Model's Devotion" in the NY Time on how Maillol, the
old timid sculptor, met a beautiful and witty young teenager who became his
ultimate model, rejuvenated his career for the last 10 years of his life and
insured his immortality after his death. I felt that this encounter was
predestined - a charmed gift to us, art lovers.

אריסטיד מאיול (1861-1944) היה קיבעון אדיר לנשים צעירות ועירומות וחוש גאוני
לביטוי מאוזן והרמוני של מסת הגוף הנשי - האם זה מספיק? כמעט. כל אמן, ובפרט כשאתה
בן 73 ומרגיש שהחיים כבר מאחוריך, צריך עוד משהו. באמנות קוראים לזה מוזה. האידיאל
הנשי של מאיול היה הטיפוס החסון, המוצק, מותניים קצרות, חזה זקור וירכיים עצמתיות,
ולכן, כשהכירו לו את דינה ויירני בת ה-15 הוא הבין מיד שקרה לו נס. המפגש
בין הכישרון הבשל לגוף המושלם הפיח בו אנרגיה מחודשת להמשיך לפסל - לא סתם אמר
מאיול לאבא של דינה: "אתה הולדת אותה אך אני יצרתי אותה עוד קודם לכן". עד למותו
בתאונת דרכים בגיל 83 הספיק מאיול להעניק לנו את היצירות המופלאות הללו שהן בבחינת
שיר הלל ליפעת הגוף הנשי של דינה ויירני. דינה, יהודיה כלל וכלל לא
טפשה, המשיכה את מפעל חייו של אריסטיד, הקימה מוזיאון שהציג את יצירותיו ויצירות
גדולי הציור והפיסול הצרפתי בדורו, והייתה כמובן אספנית אמנות בעלת טעם יוצא מן
הכלל.
